The Nati

We're fortunate to have a place to take some time off the road and get some reprieve from this years brutal winter storms. Holed up in Cincinnati for the last several weeks, with Brookes family keeping a roof over our heads and food in our bellies. Their seemingly endless love and generosity leaves me in need of nothing and filled with gratitude. I've also relied on the kindness of another to pass the time here in Cincinnati.  After being introduced to Jim (thanks Ross) he didn't hesitate to offer me full access to his woodshop and anything in it, providing me a creative outlet and companionship. Also a big thanks to all the amazing people at Enzo's.  I've been working on a Greene and Greene inspired coffee table for Brooke's sister Brittany and her fiance Mark. After they came to me with a couple ideas of what they wanted, they were kind enough to give me creative freedom.  I'm working on the final details and hope to have some pictures to post soon.
In the coming days as we prepare for our trip to Hawaii, we can look forward to a few final adventures. In particular, I'm looking forward to visiting "the bourbon trail", a string of bourbon distilleries in Kentucky.  On the list are Jim Beam, Woodford, Makers Mark and Wild Turkey to name a few, no doubt this will be a glorious day.

The creepiness of the looming figures on the shops ceiling fades with time.

Bender Mountain

A hike up Bender Mountain led by none other than our favorite naturalist, dad.

Brown County

The best thing about exploring the nearby parks this time of year, is usually we're one of the only ones doing it.  You can imagine how populated it gets come fall as all the trees change colors of bright yellows, oranges, purples and reds.

Coffee Break at Muddy Boots Cafe
...and even though it's hard to see, they have a sign posted "Unattended Children will be given an espresso and a free puppy"  We thought it was clever.

Getting to visit family is some of the best parts of being home...

Ice & Snow

From down the street to many of the nearby parks, it's been a crazy winter here in the midwest.  Mother Nature can't seem to make up her mind as the weather has been in the 60s this past week, with sunshine that feels like springtime.

A day on the farm...

Bai & Maxwell
Found out this week that Bai had a bit more fox in her than we ever expected.  I gave her an egg while cooking one morning, to which she ran off with it, crunched and ate it in about 3 seconds, shell and all.  Great, now not only are the chickens not safe, but the eggs as well!

Punk

Upon arriving in Cincinnati before the holidays, we had another reunion...Bailey.  We think it's safe to say she missed us.  She had traveled eastward with the grand-p's ahead of us, so we could hit all the national parks between here and there. (Thanks mum&dad!)  It was amazing, but we did miss her.  Really would have been nice to have her with us in bear country...then again, maybe it's a good thing we didn't have her along.  She's cute and all, but most of the time she can be a punk, and there's still plenty of time for that in Appalachia!  It's been interesting to watch her make her own accommodation in the truck.  We look forward to traveling the east coast and more with her, while she can still carry her own pack.
